A new driver of domestic tourism: the Russian platform of immersive excursions was presented in Salekhard

A technological platform for the development of immersive tourism, focused on museums, tourist routes and educational programs, was presented at the Obdoria–Mangazeya interregional conference in Salekhard. A report on the possibilities of the solution was presented by Dmitrii Trusov, co-founder of the Endi Group of companies, an expert in the implementation of VR/AR and artificial intelligence in the museum and educational environment.

The platform is designed to integrate immersive technologies into guided tours and is designed to bring together museums, content developers, tour guides and tourists. It allows creating and publishing 3D reconstructions of historical sites, deploy virtual exhibitions, and offer visitors interactive scenarios available both indoors and outdoors.

One of the key features of the solution is the device management module, which allows you to run content not only on VR glasses, but also on phones, projectors, media screens and low-temperature resistant digital binoscopes. The latter are especially relevant for regions with extreme climates: through them, one can observe historical reconstructions right against the background of a real landscape — from the economic activities of the first settlers to the paleoscene with mammoths.

The platform also includes a database of digital counterparts of museum exhibits and archaeological finds, which opens up opportunities for creating virtual exhibitions, educational programs and restoration tasks. Support for artificial intelligence technologies has become an important element: AI guides are able to interact with visitors, and specialized models help to restore archaeological sites from fragments.

The presentation includes a number of already implemented cases: 3D reconstruction of the Obdorsky prison, VR reconstruction of the Trinity Cathedral in Surgut, paleontological plots for the Azov Museum, historical scenes for the Museum of a special purpose garage and a series of interactive children’s quests based on Pushkin’s fairy tales.

«We see that classical formats are no longer sufficient to engage the modern visitor. People want to learn a story through action, through personal experience and emotions. Immersive technologies allow you to literally see the past around you and thereby make the cultural heritage closer and clearer,» Dmitrii Trusov said during his speech. «Domestic tourism in Russia is showing steady growth, and the creative industries are becoming one of its key drivers. Immersive formats enhance interest in museum spaces, increase the accessibility of cultural sites and allow attracting new audiences — from schoolchildren to adult visitors who have little to do with the technological agenda.»

Following the conference, the initiative received a positive expert assessment, and representatives of regional institutions expressed their readiness for further dialogue on the implementation of such solutions in museums and tourist areas of Yamal.
